Our area managers, on average, have around 12 pubs each which they will visit weekly to help to develop each pub into a successful business. As always, with J D Wetherspoon, it really is ‘a people thing’. The majority of our area managers will have come from managing our pubs themselves, but we are always keen to welcome talented people from other businesses into the company, bringing with them new and groovy ideas.

The operations team is the heartbeat of the company; it is an exciting place to work – fast-paced, fun and rewarding.

Gill Brown – Area Manager

I started my career at one of our Wetherspoon pubs as a shift manager and, over time, with lots of training and support, I was appointed as pub manager. I was lucky enough to have run two pubs, before completing the area manager development day and being promoted to trainee area manager. After completing a five-month training programme, I am now a qualified area manager, looking after my own area, where I help to support the pubs, to ensure that we deliver the company’s sales and targets – through developing, training and ensuring that our pubs are the best places to work and visit.
