Before you apply to us, please take a look at the information below. There are lots of hints and tips which may help you with your application to us.
Proof of right to work in the UK
We require all applicants to have the right to work in the UK. If invited for interview, you must be able to provide evidence of this. This evidence must be original documents and not copies. If you are unable to supply these now, then we ask that you submit your application only once you do have this evidence available.
If you do not have the right to work in the UK, we will be unable to employ you.
UK bank account
We require you to have a UK bank account, in your own name. All payments are made by BACS, directly into your bank account. Cash/cheque payments are not possible. If you do not have a UK bank account, in your own name, we will be unable to employ you.
National Insurance number
If invited for interview, we require you to provide evidence of a National Insurance number (must not be a temporary number). This can be in the form of an NI card, previous employer’s payslip or an HM Revenue & Customs document with your name, address and NI number displayed.
Staff position
If you are completing a paper application form for a staff position, here are a few tips which will help your application with us.
Ensure that:
• you have your National Insurance number and referee information available.
• your application is neat and your handwriting readable.
• you answer all questions as accurately and fully as possible.
• you sign and date your form.
Please be aware that we do require you to complete an application form and we do not accept CVs for staff positions. You may attach a CV to your application; however, this is only to provide additional information which you have not been able to include on your application form.
Management position
If you are completing an online application form for a management position, here are a few tips which will help your application with us.
Ensure that:
• you have your National Insurance number and referee information available.
• you answer all questions in full and don’t rush.
• your dates of employment are as accurate as possible.
Head-office position
If you are applying for a position at our head office, you will be required to submit your CV with a covering letter. Please ensure that your CV is up to date and that you include sufficient information about your previous employment history.
We will ask you about your previous work experience, so please be prepared to answer our questions as accurately as possible.
Be as honest about yourself as possible: if you do have any weaknesses, you should tell us about them. We want your personality to shine through at the interview. Don’t forget that our fantastic training will teach you the skills which you need.
If you are successful for a staff position in one of our pubs, you may be asked to attend a work trial. This trial will last 2–4 hours and is unpaid. It will give you a true picture of what it is like to work at Wetherspoon.
You will not be asked to serve customers or handle money. You will simply shadow one of our experienced team members. This also gives the pub manager the opportunity to find out whether you are right for us.
